Bluegrass

Fraud reviews and disputes worked from a complete file, inside every regulatory deadline.

Bluegrass builds fraud and dispute review systems for banks, credit unions and fintechs. The systems gather and check the evidence, track each deadline and draft the decision and customer letter for a person to approve.

The systems take on the review, where most analyst time goes, and leave detection to the fraud tools you already run.

What fraud and dispute reviews involve today

An analyst pulls the transactions, device records, prior claims and anything the customer supplied, decides what happened and documents why. Regulation E and Regulation Z disputes also carry deadlines for acknowledgment, provisional credit and a decision, and every step must be recorded.

Volumes jump with each new scam pattern, and a missed deadline or unsupported decision becomes a regulatory finding. Yet teams spend much of their time assembling evidence rather than judging it, and assembly is the part worth automating first.

How automated fraud and dispute review works

  1. 01

    Take in the case

Claims from your contact center, digital channels and card platform, and cases from your fraud tools, are classified by type, with deadlines set from your procedures.

  2. 02

    Gather the evidence

The system collects the transactions, authentication and device records, prior claims and the customer's own account of events, and reads any documents attached.

  3. 03

    Compare and recommend

The evidence is compared with the claim and your rules for that type of case, and a recommendation is drafted with every fact cited.

  4. 04

    Draft the decision

The decision, any chargeback submission and the letter to the customer are drafted in your templates for the analyst to approve.

  5. 05

    Track to closure

Deadlines for acknowledgment, provisional credit and resolution are tracked on every open case, and the record shows each step and who took it.

Where people stay in the loop

Decisions on claims, provisional credit and account restrictions stay with your analysts. Simple claims with clear evidence are usually the first measured for a lighter review, while suspected first-party fraud and vulnerable customers stay with a person.

The systems it works with

The system works with your card and payment platforms, fraud tools, core platform and dispute or case management system, and writes decisions back to the case.

When to build it, and when to buy it

Dispute management software and card processor tools already handle much of the workflow for standard card disputes, and at modest volumes they may be all you need.

A custom build makes sense when claims span ACH, wires and instant payments that standard tools cover poorly, when scam claims need a careful reading of the customer's own account, or when evidence is scattered across disconnected systems.

We hold no reseller agreements, partner quotas or revenue share with any vendor, so a recommendation to buy is made on its merits.

What this work costs you today

A quick way to put a number on the problem before talking to anyone, using your own figures rather than ours.

Enter your volume and the minutes each one takes to see what the work costs in a year.

The numbers stay in your browser and are not stored or sent anywhere. Bring the figure to the first call, since it is the baseline any system should be measured against.

Questions about fraud and dispute reviews

Does this replace our fraud detection system?
Detection stays with the tools that raise cases today, and the system takes on the review that follows, which is where most of the analyst time goes.
How are regulatory deadlines handled?
Each case's deadlines are set on arrival from its type and your procedures, and any case at risk is raised to a supervisor before the deadline passes.
Can it draft letters to customers?
Letters are drafted in your approved templates with the facts of the case filled in, and they are sent only after an analyst approves them.

A senior team that has done this before

We are a small, entirely senior team with fifty years of combined AI engineering, multiple granted patents and Y Combinator founders, from Yale, MIT, McKinsey, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Vista Equity Partners. The people who scope your work are the people who write the code.

Selected work

We built the AI transformation roadmap for a top-50 P&C brokerage, and it is saving the firm millions of dollars in vendor fees it did not need to pay.

Clients include some of the largest banks, RIAs, fintechs and AI labs, as well as a top-3 P&C carrier, a top-10 P&C brokerage, a top-5 trucking brokerage, a leading specialty MGA and a leading trucking MGA.

We run only 3 to 5 engagements at a time, so that every client works directly with the senior team.
