AI for fintechs, built so your engineers can own it and your partner bank can audit it.
Bluegrass builds production AI systems for fintechs that take over the compliance and operations work that grows with every customer. We have worked with some of the largest fintechs, and what we build lands in your repositories and belongs to you.
A fintech's engineers are usually busy with the product, so compliance grows by hiring analysts, in step with the customer base. Automating that work, with the evidence a partner bank expects, keeps compliance costs from growing as fast as the business.
Where a fintech's time goes
Onboarding
Automated identity checks clear most applicants, but every failure goes to manual review, and business customers add formation documents and beneficial owners to check.
AML alerts
Transaction monitoring raises alerts that an analyst has to investigate, decide and record, and their number grows with transaction volume.
Disputes and chargebacks
Each dispute has to be classified, evidenced and answered within the card network's or the regulation's deadline.
Complaints and oversight
Complaints have to be identified wherever they arrive, including in ordinary support tickets, and partner banks expect regular evidence that the compliance program works.
What we build for fintechs
Complaint identification
Support conversations read for complaints that belong in your complaint management program, so none are lost in the ticket queue.
Partner bank reporting
The evidence and reports your partner bank requests assembled from your own systems, with every figure traceable to its source.
These are examples of what we can build for fintechs. Pick one up as-is, have it tailored to you or suggest something entirely new.
Talk to an engineerWhere to start
For most fintechs we recommend starting with the fastest-growing queue, usually alert investigations or KYB reviews. Hours saved there scale with growth, and every decision can be measured against your analysts' own.
The 4-week Opportunity Evaluation measures that on your own data before anything is built and agrees with your engineers how the system will be owned and run after launch.
Questions and answers for fintechs
- We have our own engineers. Why bring you in?
- The engagements that work best pair us with your team. We bring experience taking AI systems into production on regulated work, and your engineers own the system, in your repositories, from day one.
- Will our partner bank accept it?
- No one can promise a partner bank's decision, but each system has what its oversight team asks for: documented testing, a decision record and a named person accountable. The documentation can go to the bank as it is.
- Do the systems make compliance decisions on their own?
- Decisions on customers, alerts and disputes stay with your analysts until the evidence supports more. Autonomy is extended in stages, routine cases first, with thresholds you control and can tighten at any time.
- Is customer data safe?
- Everything runs in your own cloud accounts and reads customer data in place. The model and data retention terms are agreed with your security team, and we're happy to sign an NDA before you share anything sensitive.
A senior team that has done this before
We are a small, entirely senior team with fifty years of combined AI engineering, multiple granted patents and Y Combinator founders, from Yale, MIT, McKinsey, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft and Vista Equity Partners. The people who scope your work are the people who write the code.
Selected work
We built the AI transformation roadmap for a top-50 P&C brokerage, and it is saving the firm millions of dollars in vendor fees it did not need to pay.
Clients include some of the largest banks, RIAs, fintechs and AI labs, as well as a top-3 P&C carrier, a top-10 P&C brokerage, a top-5 trucking brokerage, a leading specialty MGA and a leading trucking MGA.
We run only 3 to 5 engagements at a time, so that every client works directly with the senior team.
