Marketing reviewed against the rules before it goes out, with every issue explained.
Bluegrass builds marketing review systems for banks. Ads, emails, web pages, social posts and disclosures are checked against the rules that apply and your own standards, and each issue is explained for your compliance officer to decide.
Marketing teams publish more often and on more channels every year, while the compliance team reviewing it is usually one or two people, so review either slows campaigns down or shrinks to a sample.
What marketing compliance review involves today
Every piece has to be read against several sets of rules at once: unfair, deceptive or abusive practices, the advertising rules in Truth in Lending and Truth in Savings, the FDIC's rules on the official advertising statement and on describing deposit insurance, and fair lending. A rate in a headline can trigger further required disclosures, and a word such as “free” carries conditions of its own.
Reviewers also check each piece against approved disclosures and brand standards and keep a record of what was approved and when. A sponsor bank's partners add a second queue, written by people outside the bank but held to the same rules.
How automated marketing review works
- 01
Collect the submission
Drafts arrive from marketing or a partner with their channel, product and audience, and published web pages and posts can be gathered for review as well.
- 02
Check against the rules and your standards
Each piece is read against the rules for its product and channel, your approved disclosure library and your brand standards, including the trigger terms that require further disclosures.
- 03
Explain each issue
Every issue is listed with its passage, the requirement it relates to and suggested wording, so the reviewer can decide quickly and the author knows what to change.
- 04
Approve and record
The reviewer approves, edits or rejects each piece, and the approved version, the review and the decision are kept together for the exam file.
- 05
Recheck what is live
Approved material is checked again when a rate, fee or rule changes, so that published pages stay accurate after launch.
Where people stay in the loop
Your compliance officer decides every finding and approves every piece, and the system's reviews are first compared with your team's own on past material. The rules it checks and the disclosure library are agreed with your compliance team and counsel.
The systems it works with
The system works with your marketing approval workflow, content management system and the shared drives where drafts live, and records each review and approval where your record retention policy requires.
When to build it, and when to buy it
Marketing review tools for financial institutions exist, and some now use AI to flag issues, so a bank whose marketing covers standard deposit and loan products may find one sufficient.
A custom build makes sense when you review fintech partners' marketing as well as your own, when your standards and disclosure library are extensive, or when the same review should cover complaints and other customer communications.
We hold no reseller agreements, partner quotas or revenue share with any vendor, so a recommendation to buy is made on its merits.
What this work costs you today

The numbers stay in your browser and are not stored or sent anywhere. Bring the figure to the first call, since it is the baseline any system should be measured against.
Questions about marketing compliance review
- Which rules does it check against?
- It checks against the rules for each product and channel, such as UDAAP, Truth in Lending, Truth in Savings, deposit insurance advertising and fair lending, together with your own policies. The list is agreed with your compliance team and counsel and kept current as the rules change.
- Can it review fintech partners' marketing?
- Partner material can go through the same review, checked against the program agreement as well as the rules, with findings sent back to the partner and recorded in its oversight file.
- Does it replace our approval workflow?
- It works inside the workflow you have, adding a prepared review to each submission, so approvals, sign-offs and records stay where they are.
