What are ACORD forms?

ACORD forms are standardized insurance forms published by ACORD, a nonprofit standards body, and used across the industry for applications, certificates of insurance, loss notices and other common transactions.

The forms agencies use most

In commercial lines the ACORD 125 is the core application, with line sections such as the 126 (commercial general liability), 127 (business auto), 130 (workers compensation), 131 (umbrella and excess) and 140 (property). The ACORD 25 is the certificate of liability insurance, and the 27 and 28 are evidence of property insurance.

Why standard forms exist

Standard forms let an agency send one application to several markets in a structure carriers expect. Markets still write their own supplemental applications, which often carry the questions that matter most to the underwriter.

Where the work is

Most ACORD answers already sit in the agency management system or client documents, yet they are rekeyed for every renewal and form. Many systems prefill some fields; the rest, and every supplemental, is still done by hand.

Where automation helps

Automation can complete ACORD forms and supplementals from the client file, with each answer linked to its source for the producer to check. On the receiving side, reading completed forms into structured data is the first step of automated submission intake.
